Bedrock Crossplay Tools

Bedrock Edition, the version on consoles, phones and Windows, uses a different network protocol from Java Edition. A bridge is needed for a Bedrock player to join a Java server.

Geyser is that bridge. It listens for Bedrock connections and translates them for the Java server. It can run as a plugin on Paper or a proxy, as a mod, or as a standalone program in front of any server.

Floodgate solves identity. Bedrock players sign in with different accounts, so an online-mode Java server would reject them. Floodgate lets them join without a Java account and gives them a recognisable name, usually with a prefix, so plugins and staff can tell them apart.

BedrockConnect handles consoles, which cannot type a server address. It runs a service that console players reach through a changed DNS setting, and it then offers a menu of servers to join.

Bridging is not perfect: some inventory behaviour, UI differences and features unique to one edition do not translate. Test with the devices your players actually use, publish how Bedrock players should connect and set rules for names so the two communities mix well.

Do I need Floodgate? If your server is in online mode and you want Bedrock players without Java accounts, yes. Without Floodgate they cannot sign in.

Can console players join? Consoles cannot enter an address. BedrockConnect provides a way to reach your server from them.
