About Bedrock & Geyser
Java Edition and Bedrock Edition use different network protocols, so a Bedrock client cannot connect to a Java server by itself. A bridge translates between them. Geyser is the best-known: it presents a Java server to Bedrock clients, running as a plugin, a mod or a standalone program.
Bedrock players have different accounts, so a second piece, Floodgate, lets them join an online-mode server without a Java account. Console players cannot type a server address at all, and BedrockConnect adds a way to reach one.
Bridges translate most gameplay but not everything. Features unique to one edition, such as some inventory behaviours, may be missing or different. Test with the real Bedrock devices your players use before you announce crossplay.
Frequently asked questions
Do Bedrock players need a Java account? Not with Floodgate, which authenticates them with their own account. Without it, an online-mode server rejects them.
