Land Protection & Claim Plugins

Griefing is the oldest problem on survival servers. These plugins stop it in three different ways: staff-defined regions, player claims and towns.

About Land Protection & Claim Plugins

Land protection is not one feature but three designs, and choosing between them shapes how your server feels.

Region protection is staff-controlled. An administrator draws a region and sets flags on it: no building, no PvP, no mob spawning, no explosions. It suits spawns, shops and event areas. WorldGuard is the established plugin for this and works together with WorldEdit, which it uses to define regions.

Player claims are self-service. Players mark out land they own, usually with a tool and a limited number of claim blocks that grow with play time, and trust friends to build inside it. GriefPrevention is built around this model and needs little staff time once configured.

Towns add a social layer. In a town system players found towns, invite residents, claim plots and, if you wish, pay upkeep. Towny supports towns and nations with an economy, so it suits servers that want politics and roleplay rather than only protection.

You can combine them: regions for spawn and events, claims or towns for everyone else. Do not run two plugins that both try to decide who may break the same block without reading how they interact.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use WorldGuard and GriefPrevention together? Yes, commonly: WorldGuard for staff areas and GriefPrevention for player land. Check each plugin's documentation on overlapping areas.

Which is best for a small survival server? Player claims need the least staff work. Regions fit staff-managed worlds. Towns suit servers that want roleplay. Choose by the play style you want, not by popularity.

Do these protect against every kind of grief? No. They stop block changes and some entity damage where configured. Combine them with logging so staff can reverse damage that gets through.

Payment buys placement, not guaranteed clicks, traffic or sales, and never an MCRank endorsement. It is bought by the owner of an approved resource, from their account.
