About Minecraft Shader Packs

Shader packs change the graphics pipeline: lighting, shadows, reflections on water, clouds and the sky. They do not change the game's rules or the server, so they work on any server a player joins.

A shader pack is not a standalone download. It needs a loader that supports shaders. Iris is a modern loader for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt that reads shader packs originally written for OptiFine, which is the other long-standing loader. A pack's page states which it supports.

Complementary Shaders, in its Reimagined version, aims to stay close to the look of Minecraft while adding detail and good performance. BSL Shaders takes a brighter, more colourful look. Both are distributed on Modrinth and support the common loaders.

Shaders ask a lot of the graphics card and the cost scales with the effects you enable. Start from a low preset, raise settings until the frame rate is acceptable and check the pack's page for a lighter version if your hardware is modest.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my shader pack do nothing? A shader pack needs Iris or OptiFine installed and enabled. Check that the loader supports your Minecraft version.

Will shaders get me banned from a server? Shaders are visual only, but some servers have rules about modded clients. Read your server's rules if you are unsure.

MCRank is Minecraft resource search and discovery. Featured placement is its paid visibility layer: creators pay to appear first, labeled Featured, on the page their resource belongs to and in searches that resolve to it. Payment buys placement, not guaranteed clicks, traffic or sales, and never an MCRank endorsement. It is bought by the owner of an approved resource, from their account.

Paid Featured placement is not available at the moment.
